December is here! Whether you’re excited for it or not, 2025 is coming to a close. Better greet the new year and your holiday guests with a happy home! Check out our maintenance checklist for this month.
First up – making sure that your oven and range hood are squeaky clean. December is one of the busiest times in the kitchen with all the holiday cooking that happens around this time.
Check the seals of your oven door for cracks and make sure heating is working as it should. Then run a cleaning cycle on your oven and remove any leftover debris. Lastly, wipe down the oven door window so you can watch your holiday meal cook perfectly in clean crisp clarity!
Clean the stove top and range hood as grease and other gunk may build up on these areas. Make sure to wipe down the range hood, inside and out. Friendly reminder to also wipe the backsplash behind your stove!
Since we’re talking about getting the kitchen ready for the coming winter, might as well hit the pantry too! Winter, especially New England winters, can brings snowstorms and power outages (*knock on wood*). Hopefully, this never happens to anyone of us, but in the off chance that it does, we need to stock up on basic supplies.
While you’re out shopping for the holidays, make sure to grab some canned and dried food to store in case of emergencies. Additionally, you need to make sure you have some stock of drinking water in your pantry. Pipes may freeze in the winter.
Now, on to happier, BRIGHTER things! Set up the holiday lights! If you haven’t already decorated, head over to the storage unit or your basement, and grab your holiday decor and lights. Inspect, untangle, clean up, and hang! If you find any strand of light that may look worn out, put them aside to get repaired or recycled.
If you’re planning to hang the same decorations annually, consider installing permanent hangers to make it easier the coming year. Otherwise, use self-adhesives, cable ties, or hooks to get some holidays vibes in your home.
It might be the most wonderful time of the year – but it might also get to be the coldest one too! We want to be warm and toasty if that ever happens so make sure to have space for your winter gear. Heavy coats, boots, and scarves should have a place on your closet this time of the year.
Additionally, make sure to clear out your coat closet (or any closet near your home’s main entry) for all these bulky winter clothes. Save yourself from the hassle of not having anywhere to hang them in once you get home!
